Chanuka is a celebration of ancient Jewish history and the foods that represent it. The culinary traditions originated in ancient times, along with the holiday itself. Customary dishes such as latkes and donuts employ oil-based cooking, which serve as reminder of the Hanukkah story where a small jar of oil miraculously lasted for eight days and nights. The rest of the meal emphasizes starch, dairy, and overall indulgent deliciousness. 

In this course, you will learn the fundamental skills and recipes for a traditional Chanuka menu, enhanced by a few updated classics. Although these dishes are particularly meaningful for the Chanuka festivities, they can be enjoyed all year round.

Chef Zoe Nathan

Chef Zoe Nathan is a founder and co-owner of the famous Huckleberry Bakery in Santa Monica, California. Chef Zoe first began professionally baking at the Tartine Bakery in San Francisco, and now strives to make residents of Los Angeles feel welcomed and nourished with her widely acclaimed sweet treats and baked goods.

Chef Robbie Arnold-Starr

Chef Robbie Arnold-Starr is the executive chef of Belcampo Meat Co. At Belcampo, Chef Robbie is all about what’s fresh and available and isn’t afraid to serve unconventional ingredients.

Chef Elana Horwich

Chef Elana Horwich is a food-sensitivity expert and ambassador for delicious, consciously prepared, home cooked meals. She currently publishes the successful food blog "Meal and a Spiel," and runs a private cooking school in Beverly Hills.

Chef Bruce Kalman

Chef Bruce Kalman is the head chef at Union in Old Town Pasadena. Driven by a “hands on” philosophy towards cooking, Chef Bruce can be found hand-rolling pastas, making his own butter, packaging pickles, and butchering his own meat.

Chef Bryon Freeze

Chef Bryon Freeze is the executive chef at Tar and Roses in Los Angeles. Chef Bryon burst into the culinary spotlight when he won "Chef Wanted," a chef competition show on the Food Network.

Chef Gianfranco Minuz

Chef Gianfranco Minuz is an Italian native and proud purveyor of Northern Italian cuisine. He earned his first Michelin star at his own restaurant Ca’Masierei in Trissino, Italy. Chef Gianfranco now works in Santa Monica but previously worked as the executive chef at Trattoria Tre Venezie in Pasadena, where he earned his second Michelin star.
