Chef Notes

The Moscow Mule was invented by John G. Martin in Los Angeles. It was originally meant to be served in a copper mug, which is a trademark of the drink.

The name of this drink changes based on the liquor being used. A "buck" is made with burbon instead of vodka, and a "dark and stormy" is typically made with rum. The other ingredients and procedures for making this cocktail remain the same.

To make ginger syrup, use an elextric juicer to extract the juice from fresh ginger root. Add sugar to the juice, and mix until it is completely dissolved. To learn more about working with fresh ginger root, visit Simon Majumdar's "How to Break Down Fresh Ginger" tutorial located at the bottom of the page.
