The Steps

  1. 1. Place the butter into a saucepan over medium heat. As the butter begins to liquefy, add the honey and maple syrup. Stir to combine. Heat the mixture until the butter is completely melted. 00:08

  2. 2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the almonds, puffed kamut, puffed rice, pumpkin seeds, and sesame seeds. Add the rolled oats, rye flakes, barley flakes, and stir to combine. Add the salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, and mix once more to combine. 00:58

  3. 3. Pour the melted butter mixture over the dry ingredients in the large mixing bowl. Use a spatula to evenly blend the wet and dry ingredients. Make sure that the dry ingredients are completely coated in the butter mixture. 03:04

  4. 4. Preheat an oven to 300 degrees. Pour the granola onto a parchment-lined sheet pan. Use a spatula to flatten and spread the granola evenly across the pan. Bake for 45 minutes, stirring the granola every 15 minutes so that it bakes evenly. The granola is done cooking when the almonds have become golden brown. Break the granola up and serve with yogurt, on its own, or as otherwise desired. 03:49

- Almonds, halved (2 1/2 cups)
- Puffed kamut (2 cups)
- Puffed rice (2 cups)
- Pumpkin seeds (1 cup)
- White sesame seeds (1/4 cup)
- Rolled oats (1 cup)
- Rye flakes (1 cup)
- Barley flakes (1 cup)
- Salt (1 teaspoon)
- Nutmeg (1 teaspoon)
- Cinnamon (2 teaspoons)

Organic ingredients are produced without the use of chemical preservatives or pesticides. While the use of organic ingredients is encouraged, conventional ingredients may be used in this recipe as well.

Kamut is an ancient species of wheat that originated in the Middle East. Also known as Khorasan wheat or Pharoah grain, Kamut contains 30% more protein than traditional wheat. Kamut has a rich, nutty flavor, and can be found at most grocers.

Wildflower honey is harvested from bees that visit wildflowers. Wildflower honey is collected from a variety of flower species and, as a result, will yield different tastes, aromas, and flavors depending on the season. If wildflower honey is unavailable, clover honey can be used in this recipe instead. Clover honey is harvested from bees that visit clover plants. Any type of honey that is liquid at room temperature can be used in this recipe.

Rye and barley flakes can be found online or at specialty grocers. If these ingredients are unavailable, additional rolled oats can be used instead.
