1. Tip the blade of a serrated knife down towards the middle of the cake. Saw through the cake until the blade comes out on the other end. 00:20
2. Use a napkin to wipe down the knife's blade between each cut. This will prevent the cake from becoming untidy. 00:42
3. Place four fingers on the outside of the cake next to the cut to measure one portion. Using the tip of the blade, find the middle and saw through the cake. 00:49
4. Cut the medium wedge in half, slicing down the center of the wedge. Cut those two pieces in half, creating five slices on one side of the cake. Repeat the process with the other half of the cake. 01:06
What You'll Need
- Serrated knife
- Round cake
A tall cake will yield thinner slices of cake than a short one: A two-tier cake will yield 12 slices while a shorter cake will yield about 10 slices.
Serrated knives are the best knifes for cake cutting.
To cut cheesecakes or dense cakes, rinse the blade with hot water before slicing. This will prevent the knife from sticking or tearing the cake.
